This was a revelation for me. I had heard one other Zola Jesus record (via Danny's blog), but it didn't really do it for me. I was very hesitant to check this out as a result, but I'm glad that good ratings and a pretty cover convinced me to. This is much more what I was hoping for, a sort of truce between post-punk and the post-punk sub-genre no wave (totally different sounding, but potentially similarly grouped with labelmates Pocahaunted and Hair Police). The EP length also makes the affair more palatable. This deserves a few repeat listens to be sure, but I think this is one of the more solid releases this year, a year that has plenty of solid, but not great, things to check out.
I'm going to be gone over the weekend, so you get this and one bonus post. Feel free, KiC contributors, to add stuff the next few days so there isn't a gap.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said here. I'm really bummed that, even though released earlier, this leaked later than the album and I had already gotten to post that one on my blog. This one is MUCHHHHHHHH better.
I like this one too, much better than the album!
Be sure to check out also the singles/7", some of the tracks are as good as these, and one or two even better!
t's such a tickety-boo site. fanciful, extraordinarily stimulating!!!
