Sorry about the lull, but apparently my co-contributors are as busy as me. I remain busy, but you care about the music, so on to that. What you have here is one of my 37 5 star albums on RYM, Andrew Hill's breathtaking Smokestack, with the unusual double-bass and drums lineup, with Hill's amazing (perhaps my favorite, yes, ahead of Cecil (who I've seen live with William Parker (in your face, Danny!)) piano front and center. This is a CLASSIC, but somehow only has 68 ratings. Get with the truth; this is my favorite Hill album (ahead of, of course, Point of Departure). Don't pass on this.

I find no peace and I am not at war,

I fear and hope, and burn and I am not ice,

I fly above the heavens, and lie on the earth,

and I grasp nothing and embrace the world.

It's raining and a bit cold, and I felt a sudden urge to post this. It sounds nothing like the title suggests and everything like Basinski's Loops and Gavin Bryars doesn't not not. Also, there are Arnold Schonberg and Beatles samples here . . . .

Given the popularity of the Pan Sonic post, here is another audio teaser for you: the visual component to Multiple Otomo Project is the real seller here, but don't sleep on the separate audio disc included herein. Otomo is a master, and what we have here might be the first of what I hope are many successful multimedia art presentations. Considering how badass Atsuhiro Ito's Optvision is (I saw this live, pfft), that might come to pass.

So, psycho-folk is now a genre. This is where the loser hipsters, escaping to the forest to connect with their inner instincts and make some killer CDs, happen upon a small group of rabid, indigenous people, feeding off the last group of white people to go astray. You can hear the hipsters stayed until they heard for the first time teeth digging into human cartelege. I think this is the only surviving aural document of that chance meeting.

I was not as taken with the previous year's 'Tropical Trip' as some have been, although I think I've grown to appreciate many aspects of it. Likewise, 'Solar Vision' was interesting, but I have not returned to it since. All of these Jooklo guises were melting into one another, and I was starting to think I would care less and less, like I have with Acid Mothers (until I saw AMT live, that is). Well, this release has pulled NJT from the brink and earned a lot of respect.

It has been a few days, so here is something that is surprisingly under-rated. I think less than 30 people have this one marked, which is astonishing given what I thought was Smegma's large visibility (well, at least a cover shoot for the Wire), and their tenure. Now, to be fair, the most recent Smegma work has not clicked for me yet, and their music is challenging to the average listener.
